Crossfit for All Ages

CrossFit for All Ages

When one thinks of CrossFit, oftentimes a picture of a twenty-something, buff, extremely athletic looking person comes to mind. People don’t normally think of the older adults, the ones 50+, as CrossFitters. However, over the past few years CrossFit has gained popularity not only to the younger athletes, but to the older adults as well. Why? Well, CrossFit is an amazing sport in that anyone can do it. You don’t necessarily have to even be in any sort of shape to start. You can scale the workouts down if you want to decrease intensity and weight in order to fit with what works for you. The only things required are determination and an athletic spirit.

In Pat Hanavan’s article: CrossFit for the Over 50s-Men, the combination of strength training and cardio “helps to slow, or even reverse, the decline of bone density and muscle mass.” Some other great benefits CrossFit provides are:

  • Improving focus
  • Managing weight/losing weight
  • Strengthening bones
  • Boosting energy and vitality
  • Decreasing the risk of injury not only during exercise but in day-to-day life as well.

CrossFit is not only a fantastic form of exercise, but it also caters to the people who still want to remain competitive. The beauty of CrossFit is you don’t have to compete with anyone but yourself. Whether it’s to get a movement down, increase weight or decrease time, you can constantly try to improve on something. So don’t be intimidated by what you think CrossFit is. Try it out for yourself! There has to be a reason why there are over 100 affiliates across the country and over thousands of people who have gotten hooked on it.
