Challenge to Lower Daily Salt Intake

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association is challenging Americans to cut specific foods from their daily diet in order to reduce the amount of salt intake. The goal is to have a limit of 1,500 milligrams per day of salt. According to the Associations, Americans consume more than twice that amount each day. The idea is that consumers who focus on lowering their daily intake will notice a significant difference in the way their body feels after a meal. The associations are encouraging people to read nutrition labels and do some research on how much salt you are actually consuming, because some may be very surprised at just how much. The program aims to restrict different types of foods over a three-week period. After the three-week period, experts say it should change the way your food also tastes. Making small lifestyle changes such as this can help make this year the best one yet!
